Narrative Theories

Todorov came up with the idea that a narrative was split up into different sections of how the story plays out.

Todorov said there was: Initial Equilibrium --> Disruption --> Disequilibrium --> Climax --> Resolution

Story and plot to many many may seem very similar and the same thing. However they are widely different in their meaning. They represent the difference Between what elements of narrative are and the ways in which we experiences them.

Propp developed a structure for understanding consistencies across a broad range of narratives. He had the idea that there were two main factors: That there were common characters regardless of the type of story that is being presented. In addition Propp also said that characters must undergo common stages. This was a fairly sophisticated  mode of analysis that resulted in a easily graspable notion, and this is that the characters  cab be seen drive and lead a narrative.
