Conventions of a Teen Movie.

Narrative -
Teen movie's generally about teenagers going through a phase of their life, usually a troublesome adolescent  period that involves conflict and drama. Typically these issues are about problems with relationships with friends or family, drugs, alcohol and sex. Initially the audience will meet the characters where we will learn about there 'teenage stereotype' and their traits and personality. We find that they want something and want to accomplish it, we also discover why they want to accomplish their missing wants and needs. They try hard to achieve what they want however it does not go according to plan, leading into the realisation that what they want is not really what they want but rather just what they thought others might want, for example a 'guy in an American Highschool' wants to go out with the best looking girl in the college however they fail and come to the conclusion that he actually loves the 'nerdy' girl that is not cool and is shy and academic stereotypically.

Mise-En-Scene -

The movie is almost always set in a school, college or university where there are many teenagers. Most of the students will wear laid back typical teenager attire, wearing a baggy hooded sweater and torn jeans and a basic backpack. There is high key lighting and the generally the popular girls will wear lots of make-up in juxtaposition to the 'nerdy' and  uncool girl who where almost no make-up and wears boring clothing and a basic hair style.
